I love when CB people, don't understand what they're doing inside their amplifier but think they do, yes adjusting those trim capacitors will affect the reflected power that the radio is seeing, however adjusting them without the help of a spectrum analyzer is asking for problems. And if a Broadband Transformer couple linear amplifier. If the input tuning or output tuning is thrown off at all, it will easily generate a second harmonic stronger than the fundamental carrier. Also whistling and looking at Pep power. Should be done using a continuous tone not a whistle. Or stretching out the word audio to 28 syllables. When you modulate the transmitter to over 100%. You generate excessive sideband harmonics. And spur harmonics. It's always best to tune your amplifier with a dead CW carrier. And no modulation, then check your modulation with a standard two-tone.

I fund all of my stuff by buying and selling and begging families of silent keys for antennas and such. Self made but on my second run as well. Keep your stuff. Don't sell it after 20 years and let the guy buying the last piece convince you to get back on the radio and have to start all over. The RADIO is your FRIEND. Not the Azzholes on the other end. ✌✌

Real quick bud, thanks for the tips, but I gotta say, you're calling the flash color made by the getter. The getter. The getter is the small O shaped metal pieces just in front of the color flash. The getter was flashed at the factory to get out the remaining oxygen to create the vacuum. Usually, when that chrome color turns white or disappears, it's a bad tube indicating the vacuum is compromised by a leak. Discoloring can sometimes indicate a weakening in tube life. Lettering faded or wiped off won't mean a bad tube, but it can indicate that it's old. Thanks

I always recap and replace the transistors on amp board . I’m 47 and if they are in the same age range, I rebuild the board then work my way to the element. Most of the time I have a d104 tug-8 stand I use to test the elements with. Unless there’s obvious physical damage to the head and element, most issues are wiring, connector or component issues.

You cant always tell by looking at the getter. Unless its white or gone. But the color can differ depending on the flashing method used at production. Also white powder in tube could be getter but could also be used up plate or filament material. I have one of these like this but it tests goid and is strong still.

That radio is ruined, clipped on SSB and trap coils were spread. Pure splatter box‼️

If you're still not sure, just open the radio unplugged, use a finger nail, turn it full counter clockwise, then back off between where it was and full. Easy Peasy.
